Writer, filmmaker, and conceptual artist, 2020 STF Fellow
Edward Columbia is a writer, filmmaker, and conceptual artist. He is co-founder of Special Occasion Films, a production company that creates documentaries and narrative films with a focus on social and cultural activism. Most recently, Columbia and his production company completed a cinematic documentary about the community activism of renowned artist and educator Roberto Lugo. Columbia has conducted community arts programs for children with a focus on visual arts, playwriting, and performance in both the United States and in China. Over the last five years, he has published essays, blogs, and videos on ethnic minority arts and rural arts programs in the southwestern Yunnan and Sichuan provinces, most recently working with the South China Morning Post platform Goldthread to create a short-form documentary on the Dianhangcao Center for Hani Culture in Xishuangbanna.
